"He's already nine, much older than it is ideal to start training someone in the ways of the Force. You were fourteen when you left the Order. Your training was incomplete," Qui-Gon said, he'd meant it as a statement of fact but this all came out sounding more than a bit arrogant. "He needs someone fully trained in the ways of the Force to guide him."
Oh, that did sting and it did show on Qui-Gon's face.
"Are you so willing to let your feelings about our past and about the Jedi cloud your ability to make the right decisions on behalf of Anakin?" Qui-Gon snapped. "He needs someone knowledgeable in the ways of the Force to guide him."
But Qui-Gon knew they were left with no options. He knew of no one that fit that description.
Unless...
"If you are willing to set aside your pride, I have a proposal."
This simple suggestion was a breach of Jedi rules on many levels. The Jedi were uncomfortable with individuals learning how to use the Force outside of the Order, it was a shade closer to letting Dark Siders run free unchecked. Even if they weren’t Dark Siders. It was also against the Order’s rules to train someone without the Order’s approval.
However, Qui-Gon believed in his vision involving the boy, more than he believed in the right of the Council to have a say in all things related to the Force. Such was the depth of his conviction regarding what he’d experienced.
It shocked him speechless, actually, and all he could do was stare for several long moments.
then he flashed a grin, that was bright and maybe just a bit sharp, but. "All right." He gets to supervise and Qui-Gon has the better training that is needed and that Anakin deserved.
