Qui-Gon leveled Obi-Wan with a gental glance.

"Your freedom," he said simply.

Qui-Gon grew quiet, but not the comfortable kind. He was deeply upset about the way the Council had once again, decided to remain apart from any action they could take against slavery. Qui-Gon was allowed to assist the Naboo Queen in this, but he wasn't not here on official Jedi business.

"I must admit, I am not here on the Jedi's behalf. I am assisting the Queen of Naboo in the negotiations to free you and the Skywalkers, but this is all her doing." He was sure the Council would relieve themselves with the comfort that someone has picked up where they had refused to act, and then rest on that as a balanced outcome. All the pride with none of the work.

He was also here for another reason... but the matters of freedom first.

That being said. "The particulars of the negotiations are that you are now free, aside from the matter of deactivating the slave chip. But that will be settled shortly. The Queen has invited you and the Skywalkers to visit her on Naboo and she hopes you three would be willing to take advantage of the refugee relief programs on Naboo. However, from here it is your choice. Your freedom was purchased with no strings attached, you are welcome to turn down the Queen's further offer of assistance if you so desire."

That Obi-Wan was asking this out of a lack of care for himself, Qui-Gon didn't notice. Perhaps a mix of a failing on his part and simply because Jedi were trained from infancy to think about others before themselves. They always put their welbeing last.

"They are packing ask we speak. Anakin lost his pod-racer in the deal we made with Watto, but a small loss compared to the gain of freedom."

"I am confident he will see it that way," Qui-Gon agreed.

Qui-Gon didn't comment on Obi-Wan's need to pack, he was sure the man could manage on his own.

But he remained, he was quiet for a moment until he finally said, "I did come for another reason."

Qui-Gon chewed on the idea of telling Obi-Wan. Jedi didn't talk about intimate or deep matters of the Force with outsiders. And technically Obi-Wan was not a Jedi.

But the man would know of what Qui-Gon spoke, and it was his hope that the man would be more receptive than actual Jedi (namely the Council).

"I had a vision about the boy."

Qui-Gon noticed Obi-Wan's response.

"I thought you might be more open minded than the Council."

Qui-Gon nodded.

"How much do you know of the old prophecies?" His time with Obi-Wan as his master had been brief. He'd couldn't remember if he'd ever mentioned them in his time with him. But he was also sure initiates did not get a thorough education on the subject, being so young.

This gave Qui-Gon an idea of how much he needed to explain, though he chose his words carefully. Obi-Wan was no longer a Jedi, Qui-Gon was skating a thin line between right and wrong, according the Order, by explaining this.

"The old prophacies speak of a Chosen One who will bring balance to the Force." A good place to start.

Unfortunately, Qui-Gon's had more alarming news that needed to be explained first.

The Council was well aware of the means by which Rael died, but their response thus far had been underwhelming, in Qui-Gon's opinion. It was one thing for a Jedi to fall and turn to the Dark Side, a Sith resurgence was something else altogether and required more than talking about the issue. Which is all that the Council seemed to be doing right now.

It was because of the Council's inability to move decisively that Qui-Gon decided it was worth their ire to explain more of the situation to Obi-Wan.

"The Council would not approve what I'm about to tell you," Qui-Gon prefaced. "Rael's death was no mere tragic coincidence on Naboo. When we helped the Queen infiltrate the palace in her plan to retake the planet, we encountered a highly skilled Dark Side user. He was clearly well trained, and I believe he is an indication the Sith have returned."

"I am aware of that," Qui-Gon said, easily sailing over Obi-Wan's cold response with his Jedi sensibilities. Whatever emotions Obi-Wan was feeling didn't hinder Qui-Gon talking about what he felt he needed to discuss, so the older man was unfazed.

"The Jedi also wouldn't take him," Qui-Gon said. That was a reality Qui-Gon couldn't change.

"However, the Jedi's refusal to admit initiates older than a certain age doesn't negate my vision of him. I now believe he is not just a boy strong with the Force, but the that the Force has a purpose for him, even if the Council will not see it if I were to present my thoughts to them."

"I believe he should be trained in the ways of the Force," Qui-Gon said decisively, though his tone was hardly forceful. "Even if the Jedi will not accept him."

"He's already nine, much older than it is ideal to start training someone in the ways of the Force. You were fourteen when you left the Order. Your training was incomplete," Qui-Gon said, he'd meant it as a statement of fact but this all came out sounding more than a bit arrogant. "He needs someone fully trained in the ways of the Force to guide him."
